With around 250 dogs in our care at any one time, enrichment isn't an occasional treat—it's an important part of every day.

What Is Enrichment?

Enrichment simply means providing activities that encourage dogs to use their minds and bodies in natural, enjoyable ways.

Just like people, dogs need more than the basics to thrive. They need exercise, stimulation, companionship and opportunities to make choices.

Life Beyond the Kennels

At Dennis Shelter, that's simply not the case.

Throughout the day, our dogs have supervised access to a large open exercise area where they can run, play and interact with other dogs they know and trust. Every playgroup is carefully managed to ensure the dogs are compatible and comfortable with one another.

Watching them race around together, sniff every corner and simply enjoy being dogs is one of the most rewarding parts of life at the shelter.

These moments of freedom and fun are just as important to their wellbeing as food, clean water and veterinary care.

Why It Matters

Many of our dogs have experienced difficult lives before arriving at the shelter. Some have been abandoned. Others have lived on the streets, where every day was a struggle to survive.
